Labor Day Weekend : )

This weekend Boyd and I did some exploring. The weather was great here. It was in the mid-60's, and it was sunny all weekend long! On Saturday we went south of Anchorage. That is where the wildlife reserve, and the Portage Glacier are located. On Sunday we hiked the Butte, and visited various lakes around the valley. Things have been going really well here. The weather has been nice, and we are both enjoying our jobs. The leaves are starting to change colors, and off in the distance you can see the snow capped mountains. Winter is well on its way! The pictures are beautiful, but they do not do this place justice at all. Its amazing to know that when God made this beautiful place he had me in mind!

Piper right before Boyd tossed her in the freezing cold lake

Reflection Lake

We only made it half way up the Butte ( a small mountain near our house). It was really steep and I was out of breath.

This is Portage Lake. Portage Glacier is just around the bend. If you look close you can see pieces of the glacier in the water.

Moose Flats

The Wildlife Reserve Gift Shop, I really liked the hat, but Boyd put his foot down. : /
The animals at the reserve have been rescued in some way or another; some were shot, hit by cars, or are in some way injured.

Grizzly Bear

Baby Elk

These trees died in the 1964 earthquake. The salt water came up into the land and killed the trees.

Our Newest Edition

Since we were unable to ship both dogs up, we decided to adopt a new one! This is Piper. We rescued her from the pound. She is an Alaskan Husky/Australian Shepherd mix. So far she has kept us entertained, and keeps me company when Boyd is at work!

EARTHQUAKE!!

Today Boyd and I experienced our first earthquake! I was at work when our plants started shaking, the fish bowl water was swishing, and the glass rattled. Boyd was in court for work. He said the Judge had a few choice words to say under his breath once it stopped. haha It only lasted for a few seconds, but it was still a little scary. Luckily there are no tornadoes here so we don't have to worry about being sucked up into the sky, but a building could very well fall on us! Oh well! We are struggling through are last few days of work, and getting excited for our weekend!!

Alaska So Far...

Boyd and I have been here for a little over a month now. Just to give you some background info; we live in Wasilla, which is apart of the Mat-Su Valley. Mat-Su is short for Matanuska-Susitna. Those are two rivers here in the valley. There is a Target and a Wal-Mart about 5 minutes from our house. A gallon of milk is 2.99 and there is no such thing as a "Dollar Menu". Sad times, but fast food is not good for you anyways. Things are going really well. : ) Boyd's work is definately keeping him busy and entertained. He is working nights right now, but no weekends! I have a job at the busiest chiropractic office in the valley. The people there are really nice, and the office is always busy. The chiropractors that work there also deal with sports medicine so they deal with all of the student athletes as well. They also have a physical therapy unit in part of the building. I've only worked there a week and so far I am just learning the basics, but eventually I will be able to take patients back and do all the paper work and assessments before the doctor comes in. It is getting dark around 9:30 now, and the temperature is around 65 if it's not raining. There are alot of things to do and see up here, some of them are closer than others. We have seen some moose, a llama, and a dead porcupine, but so far that is it. The caribou are about to migrate, and are now in season. They are a little further north so we have not seen any yet. We have been to the Matanuska Glacier and Hatcher's Pass, which are not too far from where we live. We have made some friends up here, mainly people who are in training with Boyd. They are all really nice and we keep each other entertained on the weekends. That is all for now! Stay tuned for more pictures and videos!!
